CCJFL LogoGary Lester who played 494 games in goal for Wycombe Wanderers between 1979 and 1988 was the special guest at the Chiltern Church Junior Football League End of Season Awards evening held the Ken Williams Memorial Pavilion on Friday 17th May.

scan0001Gary, who was given a testimonial game by WWFC against a Tottenham Hotspur X1 in October 1979, retired from the game completely at the age of 39 and found his life somewhat empty. Having been invited to Seer Green Baptist Church, he learned about Jesus and developed a relationship with God.Gary Lester

16 years ago he went to Romania and was surprised about what he found there in terms of under privileged children. Some years later Gary decided he needed a new challenge as to how he could best use his gifts and skills and he decided to start up a soccer skill in Romania  He and his wife finally moved out there 5 years ago and since then has taught over 1000 children the rudiments of football. He has helped to build a house for the poor and to improve the hospital facilities. His wife teaches the under privileged children to read and write. As Gary said “after years of playing football when the only thing was about winning, he now plays in God’s team – one that cannot lose!”

So interesting to know that there is life after football.

Whilst HT Teams didn’t manage to win any of the CCJFL leagues, there were runners up medals for :

Holy Trinity Hawks in the Cougars Under 13s League

Holy Trinity Knights in the Leopards Under 11s Blue League

Holy Trinity Rangers in the Tigers Under 10s Blue League
