Hole-In-One Herbert wins HT Golf Day

Golf ClubsThere was a record turnout of 37 players for the Holy Trinity Annual Gold Day held at Hazlemere Golf Club on Friday 12th July.

On one of the hottest days of the year, members of the Holy Trinity Church and Team Managers from Holy Trinity Juniors Football Club (“HTJFC”) were joined by a good number of players from Hazlemere Sports Football Club (“HSFC”) plus previous entrants and new friends.

Scores were varied to say the least but there was a clear winner. Simon Herbert (HSFC) carded an awesome score of 46 points playing off a 28 handicap. Although Simon is only an occasional golfer, he can expect a bit of a handicap cut next year!

The highlight of his winning round was the 17th hole when Simon could not find his ball on arrival at the green. Assuming it to be lost, he went to hold the flag for a teammates putt, only to notice his own ball nestling in the hole – for an ‘ace’ at this 135-yard par 3 hole. Luckily for the organisers, they had not put up any special prize for a hole-in-one but Simon was happy to go home with the first prize golf voucher and the Ted Rayner Memorial Trophy.

Second place went to another HSFC member Lee Massey with an excellent score of 37 points (off 17) and third was John Horton with 36 points off an 18 handicap.

Richard Bright won the prize for the Longest Drive on the 14th hole and Russell Thomas for being the Nearest The Pin at the 3rd.

Other prizes for good point scoring on the front and back nine holes went to Paul Baldock (HTJFC) and Stuart Mancey.

Naturally with the individual winner’s outstanding contribution, the team prize went to the HSFC quartet of Mark Mellett, Simon Herbert, Dan Mellett and Russell Thomas.

After the golf has finished and players had cooled down, they all enjoyed an excellent two-course evening meal in the Trophy Room.

Next year’s HT Golf Day will again be at Hazlemere Golf Club on Friday 4th July 2014.
